Estimating the efficiency of cooling system based on gadolinium using a simple model of heat capacity.

Number: sect. 3

Author(s) : LEWANDOWSKI D.

Summary

This paper presents proposals for a model of cooling device based on magnetocaloric material. Equations describing the model were based on the formulas for the heat capacity and energy balance. Device was modeled as three reservoirs arranged into the so-called active magnetic regenerator system. The model uses actual data measured for the high-purity gadolinium and a magnetic field of about 1 T. Obtained results suggest that the device with proposed configuration is not able to generate temperature span greater than the maximum value of ?T(adb) known from material characteristics.
