Estimating the transport capability of ice slurries with the help of enhanced enthalpy-phase diagrams.

Author(s) : MELINDER Å.

Summary

The main advantage of using ice slurries is to benefit from the latent heat of melting, which reduces the fluid flow rate. Enhanced enthalpy-phase diagrams of aqueous solutions, with added features, can help in estimating the "transport capability" of ice slurries. The added features are lines giving ice concentration and also the enthalpy difference available between the freezing point curve and temperatures 2, 5 and 10 °C below that curve. The paper gives examples of such enthalpy-phase diagrams for aqueous solutions of sodium chloride, propylene glycol, ethyl alcohol and potassium formate.
