ESTIMATION OF EVAPORATION FROM HORIZONTAL SURFACES.

Summary
THE VARIOUS EMPIRICAL EQUATIONS FOR EVAPORATION FROM WATER SURFACES WERE COMPARED WITH EACH OTHER AND THE ANALOGY EQUATIONS FOR A WIDE RANGE OF PARAMETERS. HVAC CALCULATIONS ARE DONE ALMOST EXCLUSIVELY BY THE EMPIRICAL CARRIER EQUATION. THE EQUATION PREDICTIONS AT HIGHER VELOCITIES ARE FAR HIGHER THAN ALL OTHER EQUATIONS WHILE THE LATTER AGREE WITH EACH OTHER. SIMPLIFIED DIMENSIONAL VERSIONS OF THESE EQUATIONS ARE PRESENTED WHICH APPLY TO ONLY AIR-WATER SYSTEMS. A FORMAL DERIVATION OF THE LEWIS RELATION FOR FREE CONVECTION EVAPORATION IS ALSO GIVEN.
