TESTS HAVE BEEN CARRIED OUT AT A FIELD LABORATORY TEST SUPERMA RKET SYSTEM IN THE USA TO ESTABLISH THE PRACTICAL BENEFITS OF CONDENSATE SUBCOOLING. RESULTS SHOW THAT WITH SUBCOOLED LIQUID HELD AT 278 TO 279 K (5 TO 6 DEG C), THE OVERALL PLANT GAIN IN EFFICIENCY IS IN THE ORDER OF 21.5% AT 300 K (27 DEG C) SATURATED HEAD TEMPERATURE, FALLING TO 3% AT 288 K (15 DGC. THE SUBCOOLING WAS PARTLY BY AMBIENT COIL IN AN EVAPORATIVE CONDENSER AND PARTLY BY REFRIGERANT EVAPORATION AT HIGH TEMPERATURE COMPRESSOR SUCTION IN A TYPICAL SUPERMARKET TWO TEMPERATURE LEVEL SYSTEM.
