Evaluation of different suction muffler parameters using DoE.

Summary

In this paper, simulations of suction mufflers for a small hermetic reciprocating compressor have been carried out. Different parameters of the suction muffler have been varied, and the influence on the performance of the compressor was worked out. To understand the influence of each parameter on the performance, the methods of design of experiments (DoE) were used. The governing flow field in the three dimensional suction muffler was evaluated by the use of a finite volume method. The behaviour of the valves, the cylinder and the discharge muffler were considered as one respectively zero dimensional models. The coupling of the flow field of the three-dimensional domain with the flow field in the zero and one-dimensional domain have been done by the use of the method presented by Lang et al. (2008).
