Summary
The laboratory project presented is only one example of many possible applications. Based on the specific project, annual HVAC energy savings of 15.1% for a one-stage system and 38.6% for a two-stage system are realized when compared to a conventional system. Annual energy-cost savings of 9.7% for the one-stage system and 22.3% for the two-stage system are realized. Simple paybacks in one to two years are possible. Energy-cost savings on a present-value basis are significant. CO2 and acid-forming materials are reduced as well as water use. Indoor environment is improved. There is a reduction in water use at the facility with additional savings on a community basis. The sequence of control is similar to conventional systems and which DDC is easily customized to each application. Funds to implement energy conservation concepts need to be incorporated during a project's planning phase.
