EVASOLK – Evaluation of solar cooling in comparison to reference technologies.

Summary

First simulation results from EVASOLK are available for small scale applications (residential building, small office and small hotel building) and for the standard system configurations, i.e., a gas boiler for space heating and domestic hot water preparation (DHW not in office building), thermally driven chiller TDC, and with a backup compression chiller in the solar thermal configuration. The results of the solar thermally assisted configurations are compared to reference system configurations (covering heating and cooling loads with gas boiler and multi-split unit). Highest solar cooling fractions are achieved in the office application, since the cooling load pattern coincides well with the solar heat production. However, the lowest specific costs per saved kWh primary energy are achieved in the hotel applications at some sites. In the configurations considered so far, the life cycle costs of the solar thermally assisted configurations are still higher than in the reference systems.
