Summary

THE PHYSIKALISCH-TECHNISCHE BUNDESANSTALT HAS VARIOUS EXPERIMENTAL SET-UPS AT ITS DISPOSAL TO MEASURE THE (PVT) PROPERTIES OF FLUIDS IN THE TEMPERATURE RANGE FROM 100 TO 500 K. THE MEASURING PRINCIPLE APPLIED IN THE STANDARD SET-UPS IS THE CONSTANT-VOLUME METHOD. THE RELATIVE UNCERTAINTY OF MEASUREMENT -RELATED TO THE PV/RT QUOTIENT -IS LESS THAN 0.03% IN THE TEMPERATURE RANGE BETWEEN 280 AND350 K, AT PRESSURES UP TO 12,000 KILOPASCALS, AND MAXIMALLY 0.1% AT OTHER (PVT) STATES. IN NARROWER RANGES OF STATES WHICH ARE, HOWEVER, TECHNICALLY IMPORTANT, ISOTHERMALLY OPERATING DEVICES WHICH ARE FULLY AUTOMATED -AN EXPANSION APPARATUS AND A VIBRATING TUBE DENSIMETER -ARE USED.
