Summary

The tested prototype carbon dioxide compressor is a second-generation two-cylinder reciprocating compressor, derived from a conventional R134a series production compressor. The tests reveal fairly good compressor efficiencies for moderate speed and pressure ratios. Indicator diagrams show some potential for improvement in the valve system design at high compressor speed. For high pressure ratios the volumetric efficiency is reduced by both the large clearance volume and the heat transfer in the cylinder head.
