Summary
In this paper, an experimental investigation of a CO2 ejector is presented. By using an ejector instead of the expansion valve within a vapor compression refrigeration cycle, part of the throttling losses can be recovered and the efficiency of the system can be increased. Experimental data of the ejector operating conditions (compression ratio, entrainment ratio and ejector efficiency) as well as the pressure distribution along the mixing section and the diffusor of the ejector are shown. For a variety of operating conditions the achieved experimental results are presented and discussed in detail. High-side pressure variations for driving nozzle inlet temperatures of 30, 35 and 40°C and suction pressures of 26 and 34 bar were performed. To obtain the performance curve of the ejector, the compression ratio of the ejector is determined for two suction mass flow rates for the same inlet pressures and temperatures. Additionally, an experimental investigation of the ejector under zero suction flow operating condition is presented. At this operation condition, the pressure difference between the ejector suction inlet and ejector outlet is maximized. The experimental results of the pressure profile within the mixing chamber show a strong decrease of pressure at the exit of the mixing chamber due to friction losses for all investigated operating conditions. Consequently, the length of the mixing chamber of the investigated ejector should be reduced. This pressure loss within the mixing chamber seems to increase with increasing Reynolds number.
