Experimental investigation on a Stirling cycle in application of domestic refrigerator.

Summary

Alternative cooling technology by use of Stirling cycle has been considered for application in domestic and commercial refrigerators by virtue of environmental friendliness. A V-type integral Stirling-cycle refrigerator (VISR) developed by authors consists of an expansion cylinder, a compression cylinder and a heat exchanger in-between. The expansion piston and compression piston are V-shaped and driven by a crank-connecting rod mechanism. A cold head is connected to the expansion piston and provides cooling capacity. The rotor of an electrical motor is directly installed at the crank shaft and they have a semi-hermetic configuration. The parameter optimization is important for the VISR design, but the optimal parameters are great different with various configurations and their working conditions. The design parameters such as a consumed power and COP that maximize its thermal performance are investigated under the various working conditions changing a rotating speed, working substances and charged pressures. The results are given by diagrams which benefit the theoretical basis for optimal design and operation of the V-type integral Stirling refrigerator. Characteristic curves for the cooling unit are presented so that the system performance would be estimated for the different applications.
