Stirling refrigeration for non-CFC applications.

Author(s) : LAZANU G.

Summary

Stirling cycle refrigerators do not use ozone depleting fluids, and their theoretical cycle has the highest efficiency among the proposed thermodynamic cycles. The paper describes the work performed by a Romanian firm to characterize a Stirling refrigerator in the range of moderate cooling from 240 to 280 K. The cooler was designed to supply 50 watts of cooling power at 260 K. The results prove that the Stirling cycle refrigerator will be a serious candidate for freon-free refrigeration systems. The report also presents the conclusions, lessons learned and remaining work to be done.
