Number: pap. ID: 232

Author(s) : KWAK D. K., KIM S., CHO K., et al.

Summary

The present study measured frost characteristics and heat transfer rate of scale-up fin-tube model, and predicted those of scale-down fin-tube prototype. The scale-up model has the tube diameter of 22 mm and fin size of 40 x 76 mm, while the scale-down prototype has the tube diameter of 7mm and the fin size of 12.6 x 28 mm. The test conditions were air temperature of 2°C , absolute humidity of 3.7 g/kgDA, air velocity from 0.5 to 1.5 m/s, and coolant temperature of -10°C. The coolant was ethylene-glycol aqueous solution with the concentration of 50%. Frost characteristics and heat transfer rates for the prototype were predicted by using data for the model and similarity principle. The predicted values were compared with the data measured for the prototype. They agreed within 10%.
