Summary

In residential heat pump, impacts of each component faults on system efficiency differs. As each faults have different most-sensitive features, the severity also varies according to the operating conditions. The system was employed with R410A residential unitary split heat pump with thermostatic expansion valve (TXV). Performance parameter was identified with 2nd order multivariate polynomial model based on no-fault data. Six types of general faults were imposed separately: compressor leakage, condenser fouling, evaporator fouling, liquid line restriction, refrigerant undercharge, refrigerant overcharge. Performance degradation ratio according to the change of temperature difference between indoor and outdoor was calculated with various fault levels. And he effects of operating conditions on each fault were identified.
