Experimental study of ascendant boiling flow in mini-channels.

Author(s) : AGOSTINI B., WATE B., BONTEMPS A., et al.

Summary

This paper presents experimental pressure drop and heat transfer results obtained with a vertical ascendant boiling flow of R134a in rectangular mini-channels. The test section is made of aluminium MPE tubes (multi-port extruded). Channel dimensions are 3.28 x 1.47 mm and the hydraulic diameter is 2.01 mm. Mass flux ranges from 90 to 295 kg/m2s, heat flux from 6 to 31.6 kW/m2 and outlet quality from 0.2 to 1. Two main boiling modes have been identified.
