AN EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION HAS BEEN CARRIED OUT TO STUDY THE EFFECT OF < SWIRL GENERATORS > INSIDE A HORIZONTAL R12 EVAPORATOR. THE SWIRL GENERATORS CONSISTED OF TWISTED STAINLESS-STEEL STRIPS WITH TWIST RATIOS OF 3.76, 5. 58, 7.37 AND 10.15. THE VARIATION OF SWIRL FLOW HEAT TRANSFER COEFFICIENTS WITH PUMPING POWER HAS BEEN STUDIED. THE RATIO OF SWIRL FLOW TO PLAIN FLOW HEAT TRANSFER COEFFICIENTS PER UNIT OF PUMPING POWER HAS BEEN FOUND TO BE MORE THAN ONE IN SEVERAL TEST RUNS.
