Summary

This paper focuses on flow boiling heat transfer of R245fa in a 3 mm minichannel. The range of mass velocity is comprised between 200 and 1000 kg/m².s, heat flux is varying from 10 kW/m² to 50 kW/m², saturation pressures from 4.75 to 9.00 bar and inlet vapor quality from 0 to 0.95. Flow regimes have been visualized and their transitions determined. Two flow regimes occur: bubbly/slug and annular flow. Parametric analyses are performed on the effect of heat flux, mass velocity and saturation temperature on the local heat transfer coefficient. The nucleate boiling and the convective boiling dominant regimes are pointed out for the bubbly/slug flow regime and the annular flow regime respectively. The data points are compared to three macroscale and microscale prediction methods. However none of these methods are able to satisfactorily predict the data.
