Summary
The paper deals with the heat transfer and pressure drop characteristics of R-290, R-600a and R-1270 as an environmentally friendly refrigerant and R-22 as an HCFC refrigerant for evaporating. The experimental apparatus comprised a conventional vapour compression type refrigeration and air-conditioning system. The test section was a horizontal double-pipe heat exchanger. Evaporating heat transfer and pressure drop measurements were performed for smooth tubes. The range of test parameters in the study included the evaporating temperature from 263 to 283 K, the refrigerant mass flux from 60 to 400 kg/m2.s. The results can be useful in the design of future heat exchangers for evaporation involving hydrocarbon refrigerants.
