Experimental testing of adsorption chiller with heat and mass recovery schemes.

Author(s) : THU K., NG K. C., SHARKAWY I. I. el-, et al.

Summary

This paper presents the performance of a four-bed adsorption chiller using the silica-gel and water pair, operating with both heat and mass recovery schemes so as to enhance the cycle performance. The adsorption chillers have the advantage of employing low temperature waste heat which is available in abundance in the process industries. The experiments are conducted across heat source of temperatures between 65 to 85°C along with a cooling source temperature of 30°C and chilled water inlet temperature of 12.5°C. The COP of the adsorption chiller has been found up to be as high as 0.45. Employing the heat and mass recovery schemes, the optimum pressure equalization time is also determined.
