Summary

The mismatch between the performance evaluated with numerical simulations and the ones assessed from monitoring data is considered as a relevant issue in Solar Heating and Cooling (SHC) applications. As a major consequence, an optimal system control strategy is hardly defined simply through simulation analysis. This inaccuracy can be mitigated through a proper validation of the components’ mathematical models, allowing a robust numerical simulations of the SHC system. The present paper reports on a novel methodology aimed at validating numerical models by means of real installations monitoring data. In particular, the methodology is demonstrated with respect to a SHC system installed in an residential multistory building located in Bolzano (IT). Results of the validation procedure comparing components monitored versus simulated behavior and systems simulated performance before and after validation are here reported too.
