Numerical analysis of experimental Stirling engine PROBA3AS.

Author(s) : MEDICA V., SERVIS W.

Summary

The efficiency of the Stirling engine can be increased by lowering the engine cooler temperature, what was for the long period the main research field of the second author. Results of this research were published by both authors and they presents a steady increase of engine efficiency and power by lowering the cooler temperature. Application of such processes is of special interest in technologies with "supercooled waste". Based on results on these former research, a new Stirling engine concept (NSC New Stirling engine Concept) was proposed together with proposals for increasing the performances in comparison with classical Stirling engines. The paper presents the mathematical model for numerical simulations based on the zerodimensional modelling. Presented results of numerical simulations of the performances of the new NSC engine design PROBA3AS are compared to the experimental data for the same engine. Numerical simulations are applied also on the proposal of the new solar Stirling engine NSC-PROSUN2000 with power of 2 kW.
