Experiments on a HFC-134a vapour compression heat pump assisted dehumidifier.

Summary

Experiments are carried out on a vapour compression heat pump charged with HFC-134a and installed in a closed circuit drying tunnel. The evaporating and condensing temperatures are varied in the range of -5 to 10 deg C and 65 to 80 deg C respectively. The variation in the condensing temperature is achieved by auxiliary heat input before condenser or before evaporator. The overall COP realized was between 1.2 to 1.8. Studies highlight the significance of the location of the auxiliary heat input in the dehumidifier circuit. It is observed that auxiliary heat input before condenser is preferable.
