Experiments on heat transfer in evaporators for refrigerating plants working with new fluids and data correlation.

Summary

In past years DREAM developed a new correlation methodology of heat transfer data, during boiling flow in diabatic pipes and channels, founded on a suitable hydrodynamic model for poly-phase flow and including suitable dimensionless parameters based on the extended Colburn analogy. A wide data bank of heat transfer data derived from literature papers has been correlated with a very high correlation coefficient (0.85-0.97) both for pure fluids and fluid mixtures. The methodology is very reliable but it is complex when it is applied for predictive purpose in design of a real system. A simple test rig was built recently in the DREAM Laboratory of Refrigerating Engineering for test runs with new refrigerant fluids. The paper gives a presentation of some results obtained, working with R-404A with the aim to built a simpler formulation of the DREAM correlation suitable for the technical world.
