Experimental setup for investigation of boiling heat transfer on tube bundles.

Author(s) : CAVALLINI A., DEL COL D., PADOVAN A., et al.

Summary

This paper presents a review of evaporation on horizontal flooded evaporators with R134a, covering plain and enhanced tubes. Bundle boiling correlations and available experimental results are presented and discussed. The paper represents the first step in an experimental investigation of boiling heat transfer on tube bundles using R134a as a refrigerant. Therefore, the brief review carried out in the paper provides the computational methods for the design of a new experimental apparatus for measurement of boiling heat transfer coefficient. The design of the test section is discussed, along with the measuring technique which is based on water heating and direct measurement of the wall temperature, even with enhanced tubes. The correlations discussed in the preliminary review are also used for an error analysis, including simulations of test runs with plain and enhanced tubes.
