Field experiences with vegetable cooling devices for small farmers.

Summary
Field studies on 3 low-cost evaporative cooling units for fruits and vegetables, a standard cooling box, a cooling display table, and a cooling transport trailer, are evaluated. Refrigerated cooling for low volume growers, utilizing standard air conditioning equipment and a cooler box, is discussed. Results of cost analysis and weight loss are presented. It is concluded that evaporative cooling systems operate most effectively with leafy vegetables under conditions of low relative humidity.
