Summary

Logistics, i.e. the storage and transport of perishable foodstuffs, are essential links in the cold chain. They form a network of warehouses, hubs and of means of transportation throughout Europe and the rest of the world. The first article describes the consequences of European enlargement to 25 states for transport companies. The logistics and transport market is described in the second article. The transport modes used for perishable foodstuffs (by road, sea or rail) are analysed in two articles. Finally, two authors deal with the issue of transporting small parcels in refrigerated packaging or of transportation in small crates, refrigerated thanks to a thermochemical sorption system.
