Dossier Italie : le marché des produits surgelés en 2002.

Type of article: Article

Summary

If both the retail sector and the catering sector are considered, sales of quick-frozen foodstuffs reached 725 460 tonnes in 2002, representing a 1.8 % increase compared with 2001. In Italy, the home service sector is dominated by two operators: Bofrost and Eisman. Bofrost's 300 product references represent approximately 9 % of the market share in value. The strong points of home service are vegetables and fishery products. In 2002, Eisman achieved a 70 million euro turnover (9 % more than in 2001), which is expected to rise a further 10 % in 2003. The two operators feel that prepared meals have a strong commercial potential and Eisman admits that it is trying to catch up with the offer of mass retailers, in particular in terms of snacks such as savoury pancakes.
