Summary

The report addresses concerns on the adequacy and availability of capital to finance the growing investment needs of the global energy sector to 2020. Economic growth and the use of energy are closely linked, particularly in the developing world, and global economic growth will produce the necessary resources to fund energy investment. The report covers: the oil, coal, gas, hydro, nuclear, and electricity generation sectors, and the main geographic regions. Contents: the world energy economy: reviewing investment needs and financing possibilities; regional energy development: reconciling unique challenges with global capital markets; fuels and electricity: promoting industry-specific financing; the policy issues: redefining the roles of government and the private sector; the search for solutions.
