FIRE SAFETY IN STEEL BUILDINGS.

LA SECURITE INCENDIE DANS LES BATIMENTS A STRUCTURE METALLIQUE.

Author(s) : KRUPPA J.

Summary

WHEN SUBMITTED TO THE ACTION OF FIRE, UNPROTECTED STEEL STRUCTURES BEHAVE IN AN UNFAVOURABLE MANNER. ALTHOUGH SOME TECHNIQUES DO EXIST WHICH ENABLE AN IMPORTANT INCREASE IN THE FIRE STRENGTH DURATION OF THESE STRUCTURES, THEIR USE SHOULD NEVERTHELESS BE CHECKED IN ORDER TO DETERMINE THE ACTUAL IMPROVEMENT THEY CAN PROVIDE FOR THE SAFETY OF BOTH THE OCCUPANTS AND THE CONTAINED GOODS. BUT AS REGARDS MOST INDUSTRIAL AND STORAGE BUILDINGS, IT IS OBVIOUS THAT THE DANGER DOES NOT RESULT FROM STRUCTURAL DAMAGE. AS A CONSEQUENCE, THE SAFETY OFFERED BY UNPROTECTED STEEL STRUCTURES MAY BE CONSIDERED AS BEING ADEQUATE.
