Fish and seafood consumption in Germany: on the rise.
Augmentation de la consommation allemande des produits de la mer.
Type of article: Article
Summary
Germans seem to be discovering fish. The latest figures supplied by the fishing industry demonstrate that mean annual consumption of fish and seafood rose 2.2% in 1997 and achieved a record level of 15 kg per capita, this representing a total consumption of 1,221,800 tonnes on the basis of 82 million inhabitants. German consumption is still well below the European average (about 23 kg/year) but professionals in this sector consider that rising demand is the fruit of a major campaign designed to improve sales and the image of fish.
