Summary
Burning velocities and flammability limits of CH2=CFCF3 (R1234yf) and its mixtures with CH2F2 (R32) with various mixing ratio have been studied to elucidate the fundamental flammability properties of the alternative refrigerants with low global-warming potentials (GWPs). The authors measured the burning velocities of these mildly flammable alternatives by closed vessel methods in normal gravity and compared with those in microgravity without buoyancy effect. The flammability limits were measured in a 12-liter spherical glass vessel. Temperature dependence of flammability for R1234yf was also studied. On the basis of these data, the relationships between flammability and GWP for these alternatives were discussed.
