Summary
CONTEMPORARY TECHNOLOGY MAY USE POROUS MEDIA IN THERMAL INSULATION, DIRECT CONTACT HEAT EXCHANGERS, OR NUCLEAR WASTE REPOSITORIES. THE CASE OF SUCH MEDIA BETWEEN PARALLEL SOLID PLATES HAS BEEN FURTHER ANALYSED, BASED ON FULLY DEVELOPED FORCED CONVECTION. EXACT SOLUTIONS HAVE BEEN OBTAINED FOR THE VELOCITY AND TEMPERATURE FIELDS. FOR A HIGH PERMEABILITY MEDIUM, MOMENTUM BOUNDARY LAYER THICKNESS DEPENDS ON BOTH THE DARCY NUMBER AND THE INERTIA PARAMETER, FOR A LOW PERMEABILITY MEDIUM IT IS THE DARCY NUMBER ALONE. D.W.H.
