Summary

This paper emphasizes the fact that CFC recovery is not only to prevent release to atmosphere, but to provide a source of CFC for service purposes in the interim between the end of CFC manufacture and the conversion of all systems to take substitute refrigerants. To this end, in France, the producers and distributors of CFCs have made available large numbers of gas bottles for the recovery and return of CFCs taken from refrigeration plants. Reclaim or destruction is carried out free of charge. The cost is covered by a small charge on new refrigerant. The next step is to issue a standard for recovery stations and their efficient use. Large variations have been found in field tests. Also more training is necessary for service technicians. D.W.H.
