Summary

It was concluded that Galia 5 is not suitable for normal sea freight export from South Africa to Europe. Doral fruits harvested 31 days after anthesis (DAA) and 35 DAA were stored at 12 deg C for up to 33 days. The first evidence of senescent breakdown (SB) appeared after 21-25 days of storage. Fruits harvested 31 DAA were of acceptable internal quality, but fruits harvested 35 DAA showed unacceptable levels of SB after storage for 4 weeks at 12 deg C.
