Summary

The author introduced the Thermal-to-Work Recovery Compression, TWRC, and Thermal-to-Thermal Recovery Compression TTRC, methods, in order to improve effectiveness of Mechanical Vapor Compression Cooling and Heating cycles, abbreviated by MVCC and MVCH, respectively. The methods ideal limits, noted by COPid,TWRC and COPid,TTRc, respectively, are established by two theorems. These state that COPid,TWRC is given by the isothermal compression, while COPid,TTRC equals the Carnot compression, so that COPid,TTRC > COPid,TWRC for same operating parameters, either for cooling or heating. Despite the existence of this ideal relationship, the author did not find until recently practical solutions to capitalize the higher room of TTRC effectiveness over that of TWRC. This paper presents and evaluates simple TTRC structure and shows that COPMvcc-TTRC > COPMvcc-TWRC· This relationship is proved for evaporator and internai sink source temperatures of TE= +5°C to -75°C and TMc = +27°C, respectively. Results hold for single-and multi-stage MVCC with double, triple and quadruple stages.
