Future challenges for refrigeration technology.
Author(s) : WATANABE K., MIYAMOTO H.
Summary
The authors discuss primarily the global warming issue in conjunction with the optimum selection of alternative refrigerants for various applications of refrigeration technology. After a brief history of refrigerants, emphasis is given to a vital issue, i.e. the identification of the optimum refrigerants in the light of various criteria including global environmental issues and related improvement in energy efficiency for refrigeration and air-conditioning systems. The so-called "natural fives" among the promising candidates will be highlighted because of their potential, although there are still lots of problems to be solved. The paper concludes with several overviews on future perspectives.
