GAX absorption cycle design process.

Summary

The paper presents an absorption system design process that relies on computer simulations that are validated by experimental findings. An ammonia-water absorption heat pump (10.5 kW) and two chillers (11.6 and 17.6 kW) were initially modeled and then built and tested. The experimental results were used to calibrate both the cycle simulation and the component simulations. Each system was a generator-absorber heat exchange (GAX) cycle, and all were sized for residential and light commercial use. The specific findings of the 17.6 kW chiller are presented.
