The role of the heat exchanger in the design and optimisation of the absorption refrigeration machines.

Summary

Simulation models exist that predict the performance of the absorption refrigerator, once working conditions are specified. It is felt however, that in a custom design not all conditions are known. The work stems from the study of an optimisation procedure, given the required refrigeration capacity, the evaporating temperature and the environmental cooling temperature. It was found that although the highest performance is achieved at a single generator temperature for a particular set of evaporator and environmental cooling temperatures, the heat exchanger becomes excessively large. It will be shown how the generator temperatures affect the size of the heat exchanger.
