Geothermal for big box retail.

Summary
Walmart’s new, 135,000 ft2 green prototype store in Burlington, ON, Canada, includes a geo-exchange heating and cooling system, which uses 15 km (9 miles) of pipe beneath the store’s parking lot to draw heat from the earth in the winter and pump heat back into the earth in the summer. Traditionally, this plowing technology has been used almost exclusively for oil and gas applications, where a pipe is plowed into the ground to eliminate excavating. Using a typical bore-hole installation system, it would have taken approximately three months to drill bore holes for the pipe. But using the plowing tech¬nique meant that 15 km (9 miles) of pipe could be laid out in only six days.
