Summary

SINCE ABSORPTION HEAT PUMPS ARE ESSENTIAL IN EXTRACTING ENERGY FROM WASTE HEAT OR SOLAR ENERGY, IT IS NECESSARY TO GAIN A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF THE MECHANISMS OF VAPOUR ABSORPTION. THE AUTHORS HAVE THEREFORE EMPLOYED A SYSTEM COMBINING HOLOGRAPHIC INTERFEROMETRY WITH THERMOMETRY IN ORDER TO OBSERVE THE PROGRESS OF ONE-DIMENSIONAL WATER VAPOUR ABSORPTION BY AN AQUEOUS SOLUTION OF LITHIUM BROMIDE, AS WELL AS TO MEASURE UNSTABLE CONDITIONS OF TEMPERATURE AND CONCENTRATION DURING THE ABSORPTION PROCESS.
