Heat and mass transfer and flow patterns during absorption of steam in lithium bromide/water falling film.

Author(s) : CAVALLINI A., DORETTI L., FORNASIERI E., et al.

Summary

Because of the complex fluid dynamics and the simultaneous heat and mass transfer, the absorber is still the most critical component in a lithium bromide/water absorption equipment and there is a marked need for experimental data for plain tubes also to prove the reliability of the available models. An apparatus for experimental studies of heat and mass transfer of lithium bromide/water falling film was built. A special test section was designed for visual observations: a series of tests was run with lithium bromide/water aqueous solution with salt concentration within the range typical for absorption machines without any corrosion inhibitor and surfactant and with negligible steam velocity. The transition from one flow mode to another is investigated in relation to viscosity, surface tension and gravitational effects.
