Summary
The present work reports the numerical modeling of the air flow and heat transfer inside a refrigerated truck trailer equipped with three eutectic plates and fans. The objective is to optimize the configuration of the system. This well validated model solves the conjugated heat and mass transfer inside the trailer in 2D using a k-ω SST model. For plates put at the bottom of the trailer, the results show that an inter-plate distance of 6 cm together with the blowing of the fans maximize the transfer between the airflow and the plates and reduce the average temperature within the trailer. With the plates aligned along the trailer’s roof, the average air temperature further decreases. Finally, the same simulations are repeated for a trailer transporting frozen meat.
