Summary

THE SYSTEM WAS TO FULFIL THE FOLLOWING FUNCTIONS: AIR CONDITIONING OF THE OFFICE ; HEATING OF THE LIVING AREA, BASEMENT AND OFFICE ; SERVICE WATER HEATING ; AND EXPERIMENTAL FACILITY. THE BUILDING COMPRISES 2 APARTMENTS, A BASEMENT, AND AN OFFICE IN THE TOP STOREY. LARGE GABLE WINDOWS FACING EAST AND WEST CAUSED HIGH ROOM TEMPERATURES IN THE SUMMER SEASON FROM TRANSMISSION AND SOLAR RADIATION. ONCE THE DECISION HAD BEEN MADE TO INSTALL A REFRIGERATING SYSTEM FOR COOLING IN THE SUMMER SEASON, THE IDEA SUGGESTED ITSELF TO EXTEND THE FUNCTION OF THE SYSTEM AND USE IT AS A HEAT PUMP FOR ROOM AND SERVICE WATER HEATING. THE HEAT PUMP USES AIR AS HEAT SOURCE AND R12 AS REFRIGERANT.
