THE AA. DISCOVERED THAT EXISTING CORRELATIONS FOR HEAT TRANSFER AND PRESSURE DROP OF FLUORINATED HYDROCARBON REFRIGERANTS EVAPORATING INSIDE HORIZONTAL TUBES ARE NOT VALID FOR ANY BUT NARROW RANGES OF CONDITIONS. AN EXAMINATION WAS MADE THEREFORE OF ALL REASONABLE PUBLISHED TEST DATA. THIS WAS NARROWED TO COVER THE NORMAL RANGE OF HEAT FLUX INHERENT IN MANUFACTURERS' SELECTION DATA AND THE REMAINING 94 TEST POINTS WERE SUBJECTED TO A STATISTICAL ANALYSIS. THE RESULTS OF THIS ENABLED NEW CORRELATIONS TO BE DERIVED BASED ON MASS FLOW RATE, HEAT FLUX, FLOW GEOMETRY AND EVAPORATING TEMPERATURE, WHICH MAY BE USED WITH REASONABLE ACCURACY TO PREDICT HEAT TRANSFER AND PRESSURE DROP CHARACTERISTICS OVER NORMAL OPERATING RANGES.
