Type of article: Article

Summary

IT IS SHOWN THAT THE HEAT FLUX FOR THE FINNED TUBE IS MUCH LARGER THAN THAT FOR THE BARE TUBE. TIMEWISE VARIATIONS OF THE HEAT FLUX ARE EXPLAINED FROM THE RESULTS OF OBSERVATIONS OF SOLIDIFICATION AND MELTING LAYERS AND MEASUREMENTS OF TEMPERATURE DISTRIBUTIONS. THE EFFECTS OF NONDIMENSIONAL PARAMETERS, IE, THE NUMBER OF TRANSFER UNITS, BIOT NUMBER AND STEPHAN NUMBER, ON THE SOLIDIFICATION FRACTION, THE MELTING FRACTION AND THE HEAT TRANSFER EFFECTIVENESS ARE ALSO SHOWN.
