Summary

A HEATED TUBE, HAVING INTEGRAL CIRCULAR FINS AND MOUNTED WITH HEATED GUARD SECTIONS, WAS TESTED IN VARYING AIR FLOWS WITH YAW ANGLES RELATIVE TO PURE CROSSFLOW OF 0, 20, AND 40 DEGREES. THE RESULTS SHOWED AN INCREASE IN NUSSELT NUMBER WITH THE ANGLE OF YAW, BECOMING PROPORTIONALLY LESS AS YAW INCREASED, THE INCREASES BEING IN THE ORDER OF 20-30%. THERE WERE ALSO QUITE SMALL INCREASES IN FIN EFFICIENCY. VARIATIONS IN CIRCUMFERENTIAL DISTRIBUTIONS OF BASE TUBE TEMPERATURE ARE ALSO SHOWN. D.W.H.
