Summary
In order not to increase energy consumption by introducing a secondary refrigerant, the use of ice slurry may be very interesting. Heat transfer coefficient and pressure drop for ice slurry flowing in a horizontal pipe have been measured. The measurements show high heat transfer coefficients with melting ice slurry. The heat transfer coefficient increases with increasing ice concentration and increasing velocities. A correlation for calculating the heat transfer coefficient is developed.
