Summary

STUDY OF THE HEAT TRANSFER CHARACTERISTICS OF A CROSSFLOW HORIZONTAL HEAT EXCHANGER OPERATING AT A LOW REYNOLDS NUMBER BASED ON THE FLUID VELOCITY, FLOW AREA, TUBE DIAMETER AND SPACING. THE RESULTS OF THE TEST HAVE SHOWN THAT HEAT TRANSFER AROUND THE TUBE BANKS IS NOT SYMMETRICAL FOR CROSSFLOW DUE TO NATURAL CONVECTION CURRENTS AND THAT THE LOCAL HEAT TRANSFER RATIO IN THE REAR SURFACES OF TUBES IN THE BACK ROWS OF THE COIL BANK IS NOT AFFECTED BY THE REYNOLDS NUMBER IN THE CASE OF LAMINAR FLOW.
