Summary

AN EXPERIMENT WAS CONDUCTED TO CHECK THE PERFORMANCE OF EVAPORATORS WITH GROOVED TUBES FOR ABSORPTION MACHINES. HEAT TRANSFER RATES WERE 35 AND 70 KILOW. THE RANGE OF THE FLOW RATE OF THE SPRAYED REFRIGERANT PER UNIT LENGTH WAS 1 TO 50 KG/HM, AND THE OUTSIDE DIAMETERS OF THE TUBES WERE 16 AND 19.6 MM. ABOUT 80 TO 100% INCREASE OF HEAT TRANSFER RATE OVER A PLANE SURFACED TUBE IS OBTAINED BY USING GROOVED TUBES. THE HEAT TRANSFER COEFFICIENTS ARE CORRELATED BY AN EQUATION IN WHICH THE SUBSTANTIAL SURFACE AREA, WHICH IS ABOUT 3 TIMES LARGER THAN THAT OF PLANE SURFACED TUBE, IS USED.
