Summary
This publication presents engineering design and open-ended problem experiences for introductory and advanced heat transfer courses, using a unique, integrated book and CD-ROM format. The book provides overviews of each heat transfer project, with complete operating instructions and examples. The CD-ROM contains 9 software modules create in Microsoft Visual Basic and 6 additional projects that students can implement on their own. Several modules are set up to function as "virtual laboratories", simulating the experience of working with data in a fully equipped thermal sciences lab. Full-colour graphical display illuminates the physics behind convection correlations. Extract from the table of contents: one-dimensional and two-dimensional steady-state conduction; one-dimensional transient conduction; forced convection: external flows, internal flows; natural convection; heat exchangers; radiative heat transfer. An appendix with complete instructions on programming in Visual Basic for Applications, the powerful macro language embedded in Microsoft Excel, is provided.
